RE: Repair For Gas Lifts on Basement Doors

I don't know anyway to repair them, but replacements can be bought at almost any auto parts store for a lot less than $50. I bought one for @ $20 at an AutoZone. Just be sure you get the same length.

RE: "Who's Going to Alaska in 2009?"

We plan on leaving mid-May next year solo, and first time. Have done and still are doing lots of research. Have looked at caravans, but seem too restrictive and do not have all the same interests we have. Hope to see some of you up there.

RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

NICE JOB, Professor! I have a similar situation on my motorhome...one 13,500 btu ducted A/C. So far it's been ok for the hot weather, but there may come a time I wish to add the second A/C. I will definitely keep this post in mind.
For the average DIYer, I would rate your project right up there close to a 10 in difficulty, especially not having the knowledge to work with A/C refrigerants, but will keep it in mind. Again. NICE JOB!

RE: How Dull My Decals are!

I have also used ProtectAll to brighten up decals. It also provides good UV protection.

RE: Rocks that explode around the campfire

I know shale will explode when heated, at least where I live here in eastern Pa.. Shale contains minute (that means 'tiny', for those in Rio Linda) amounts of oil. When burning leaves on shale, it pops and cracks sending bits of it into the air.

RE: coleman plastic repair

Google 'ABS repair' and you will get a number of hits for ABS repair kits. You can also make your own by mixing pieces of ABS (from ABS pipe) with MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) till you get a paste about the consistency of peanut butter. It takes a bit of time to disolve the ABS, but it's worth it. With a putty knife, force the mixture into the crack. It dries very quickly, so you must work fast. When dry, simply sand and paint. It will be as strong as the original ABS.
Here's a link to how to do it....... Click Here

RE: Clean Awning

To make it even easier, after spraying the clorox mix, roll up the awning and let sit for about 20 minutes. Requires almost NO brushing at all. Just rinse off.

RE: Cabot Trail

The best campground is the Baddeck Cabot Trail CG. It's right at the beginning of the Cabot Trail. I would plan on at least two days to travel around the trail. The campground is in an ideal location to do this.

RE: Walmart

Traveling the interstates alot, I find the rest areas start to fill up around 8-9:00pm every day. Due to law, the truckers MUST get off the road after so many hours behind the wheel. The rest areas are full, as well as the on and off ramps, with 18 wheelers. If they do not get off the road, they face a ticket and hefty fines. So, they go to the next best places to park, like Walmarts and other parking lots.

RE: V-10, Engine A/C or Generator-mileage difference???

For me, COMFORT is the deciding factor. I use whichever makes me and the DW comfortable. Have also used both at the same time in very hot weather.

RE: Extended Warranty

I just purchased a Continued Service Plan with Good Sam. I know, there are quite a few who don't like GS for many reasons, but the price was good on my 5 year old unit, and I know they'll be around probably longer than me. Give them a call for a quote.

RE: Cape Breton

I was there in October of 06 and the weather was great. A bit on the cool side, but that's the way I like it. Also expect occasional showers, but they didn't last long. Being between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic you will have this.
You will have no trouble with your 40 footer going to Cape Breton. I took PH104 from Halifax across the Cape Breton Causeway to PH105. The roads were good. Do NOT plan on taking it around the Cabot Trail, a must see. Best to use the toad. I stayed at Baddeck Cabot Trail campground in Baddeck, and it is nice....highly recommend. Just be aware that most cg's and 'tourist traps' will be closed by October 15. Good Luck, and have fun.

RE: Upper Peninsula Michigan Campgrounds?

Thanks for all the input. If I was only staying 2-3 days, I'd check out the state parks. But we're planning on at least a week, so will be checking out the commercial campgrounds. Mill Creek looks very nice as does Tiki. Thanks again for your help.

RE: Side mirror ripped off by wind

Either of the two methods described above will work. Loose mirrors are one more thing that should be added to your regular maintenance list.
What happened to me was the screws gradually worked their way loose allowing water to enter the screw holes, which softened/rotted the wood they were screwed into. After allowing the wood to dry, I used the dowel method mentioned above to provide new gripping for the screws. I also pumped silicone into the holes before I reattached the screws. After about 6 months, the screws have not loosened so far.

RE: Emerald Ash beetles in Missouri

Good luck keeping the ash borer out of your states. Here in eastern PA, the borer has destroyed most of the ash trees, starting about 10 years ago. The woods behind my house no longer have any live ash trees.
P.S. I have NOT taken any ash firewood far from home, so don't blame me.;)

RE: I-81 North of Harrisburg Pa

There were two construction areas around and just north of Scranton that may cause some delay, depending when and what time of day you go thru there. Went thru that area over 4th of July weekend and must say it was the WORST construction I've ever been in, mostly due to INCONSIDERATE and OBNOXIOUS drivers.
